  • I don't know if/how Pinboard embeds this metadata in the exported HTML, I couldn't see them at a quick glance

Inspect the database schema for bookmarks to understand existing fields. Look at how tags or notes are implemented for pattern reference. Add a boolean 'starred' field to the bookmarks table, then update the API, model, and UI to allow starring and unstarring.
